Triathlon Coaching

Swim Smooth Hereford

Our Endless Pool provides an ideal environment for a swimmer to learn about the front crawl stroke and become more efficient at swimming. Continual verbal feedback from the coach and visual feedback from video footage and the 2 mirrors in the pool, allows the swimmer to progress quicker than in other enviroments. It is a wonderful way to gain fitness and confidence, and with no need for turning or sharing busy lanes, you are able to gauge your open water fitness, whether it is before, during or after the triathlon season.

As an accredited Swim Smooth Coach, one of less than 40 worldwide, who specialise in coaching the front crawl stroke, using video analysis  to correct faults, InBalance’s High Performance Endless Pool is an ideal facility to become more efficient at swimming through the water.

The coaching experience is further enhanced while swimming in the Endless Pool with the use of cameras to identify faults above and below the water, with immediate video feedback.  Bone conducting technology headsets allows communication between the coach and swimmer while in the pool, without having to stop – start, allowing the session to run smoothly.

The Endless Pool has two mirrors; a large floor mirror which allows full underwater visuals, and a front mirror, giving the front of stroke visual. The the flow of water can be adjusted for every type of swimmer and has a maximum pace of 1.02/100m, so will accommodate even the fastest of swimmers.

Sessions

We have a changing facility in the pool house complete with shower and toilet, plus a small kitchen where a selection of teas and coffees are available.

Swim Analysis

This includes a video stroke analysis, immediate feedback on faults identified and the use of corrective drills to improve technique.

The swim analysis is a three part process:

1. Videoing the swim stroke above and below the waterline (25 mins).

2. Analysing the stroke, out of the pool using specialist software, on a monitor. (25-30 mins)

3. Stroke correction, back in the pool, using specific drills. (25 – 30 mins)

The three stages are videoed with voiceover and are yours to keep, to refer back to as a point of reference.

Swimming Stories

"Ed was great. He was very welcoming from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. Ed made it feel like he had the time to listen to me pre session. He always explained things clearly, was quick to point out again what I needed to do and what I was also doing well."
Nick
"Ed was really clear in his communication, both when out of the pool viewing the video analysis and in the pool learning drills. I liked that he used examples of best practice technique."
Francesca
"Very relaxed and clear, listened to athlete’s perspective and built that in to any explanation."
Tom
"After almost 8 years as a triathlete, I have made good progress and managed to represent my age group at two European Championships. The pride at competing at this level was also the point at which the weaknesses in my swimming were really exposed.  I’m not a natural swimmer, indeed one of reasons I started triathlon was I thought it was ridiculous that I would turn 50 without being able to swim front crawl. With other coaching sessions, lots of effort and the guidance of the Swim Smooth videos & app I was able to manage 2:00min/100m, but I was unable to improve from there.  That is when I sought Ed’s help and have been delighted with the results. The reality was my stroke had some key flaws that needed to be addressed. Ed was able to identify, and crucially for me, was able to illustrate them through video clips, drills and discussion. Following the work we have done in Ed’s endless pool, I now for the first time am able to feel what is needed to change and have the tools to do so. Now being comfortably able to swim under 1:40, I can’t wait to get back out in the open water and really be able to compete from the start of my next race."
